ABOUT

The only rescue service for the breed, UGSR comes under the auspices of the British Gordon Setter Club, the Gordon Setter Association, the Gordon Setter Club of Scotland and the Gordon Setter Field Trial Society, but is completely self financing. It has a committee made up of members of the four clubs. In addition to donations, funds are raised by selling Gordon Setter related items, social events, raffles etc….

When a request is made to re-home a dog the breeder (where known) is asked whether they want to arrange the re-homing themselves. They are encouraged to be involved with the visit to the new home and help to transport the dog to its new owner. When this is not possible the Co-ordinator takes over and the background of the dog and the prospective new owner are taken into account to find the best possible combination. UGSR offers support and will contribute toward veterinary expenses if appropriate during the six month probationary period, then if all is well the dog is signed over to its new owner.

Veterinary costs have increased sufficiently and in view of this new owners are encouraged to look into and take out insurance for their Gordon. We have an arrangement with PetPlan for us to send details of a month’s free insurance to being with; should that insurance be continued the UGSR is paid a small percent of the premium for each year the insurance is renewed. UGSR does help at certain times with veterinary costs i.e. during the first six months and when a dog is eight year’s old and over when re-homed (unless already covered by insurance). The information is explained in the ‘paperwork’ you have when first receiving your dog.
